uhhh, other than that I'm using parts I already have (Power Supply [600 watts], DL DVD-RW Drive, Fans, Case)

any tips/things I could change to get more value for my money? I'm a pretty big newb when it comes to pc parts :S

here is what i would suggest..
right off the bat, why are you getting pc4200? pc6400 is much better,
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18580&vpn=TWIN2X2048-6400C4&manufacture=CORSAIR
Also, i would not get that mobo. i would get this instead. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128012

if you want to save some cash get a e4300+decent heatsink and OC the fuck out of it. C2D are made to have the fuck oc'ed out of them :P

check the amperage on your 12+ rail on your PSU, and make sure the 8800 fits in your case, its fucking long etc

*edit - check compatibility of the ram + mobo, i didn't do it*

I just got one of those hard drives, China, and I've been very happy with it.

Remember to shop around a bit - one of my favorite sites is ZipZoomFly.com - they typically have some good deals...and many times are a bit cheaper + have free shipping.

Actually, it'd probably be better to spend a little money now for a better board and then when it's becoming too slow compared to the industry, then you can OC it to prolong it's lifespan.

Oc'ed 4300 = 140$
Stock x6800 = 1000$

should be futureproof for at least 2 years, pretty good for 140, then with the money you save you buy a new CPU when the e4300 can no longer suffice. (IMO)

i think china lives in timbuktu or canada someplace.

Looking at some of those prices on tigerdirect. It's hard to imagine for me that an AMD system isn't a much better value. AMD x2 6000+ can be had for less with prolly a better motherboard, and w/SLI to boot.

if u wanted to go green as much as possible, the Intel Core2Duo might be the best pick tho.

I think everyone who voted for bush did it as a joke thinking no one else would. They were wrong.
